HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

  • Verify before providing any personal information, money, banking information or gift cards to a caller.  Legitimate businesses do not ask for gift card payment.
  • Caller ID showing a "local" telephone number does not necessarily mean it is a local number.
  • Ask for the caller's name and telephone number
  • Hang up and check a trusted website for the businesses' actual telephone number.
  • Call the actual listed business telephone number and ask if they are attempting to contact you.
  • When using a cellular telephone - block the unknown telephone number, so the scammer cannot call you again.
  • You should do the same as above when receiving a text or email.
