Programs
Childcare Licensing
The State of Kansas requires that anyone providing home based childcare for unrelated children on a regular basis be licensed or registered. The Health Department is the local agency responsible for regulating this care as well as that of childcare centers and preschools.
Information on registration or complaints regarding a provider may be directed to the Health Department's childcare surveyor.
Healthy Start Program
The Healthy Start program provides education and support to pregnant women and families with a baby up to one year old. The program is designed to give children a healthy start in life.
A Healthy Start paraprofessional provides information regarding community resources, child development, immunizations and many other vital topics during visits to parents of Leavenworth County newborns.
Immunizations
We are a VFC provider. The Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program is a federally funded program that provides free vaccines to children who are unable to afford them or do not have health insurance. The program is intended to help ensure that all children have access to recommended vaccinations and stay healthy.
The Immunization clinic provides basic childhood and adult immunizations. Overseas inoculations for international travel are also available on a fee for service basis.

Pregnancy Case Management Programs
The Leavenworth County Health Department offers two pregnancy case management programs including the Pregnancy Maintenance Initiative (PMI) program and the Teen Pregnancy Targeted Case Management program (TPTCM).
PMI is based on a case management model that incorporates an integrated, collaborative, and multi-disciplinary provider approach for the provision of a continuum of care/services during the pregnancy and for up to six months post-delivery, based on individual client needs and goals. The service model promotes public-private partnerships to facilitate the availability and ready access to affordable and appropriate care, thus improving the potential for a positive pregnancy outcome for the pregnant woman/mother and infant. Participants receive referrals to community resources, adoption services, and parenting education/support. The PMI promotes paternal involvement and responsibility as well as ensuring expectant mother receive adequate prenatal care.
The purpose of the TPTCM program is to provide comprehensive case management services to KanCare-enrolled pregnant and/or parenting adolescents during pregnancy and up to 12 months after delivery. Support is given to teen moms to promote adequate prenatal care and assistance in delaying a second birth until after completion of their basic education or vocational goals. Teen moms are encouraged to engage their children in well-child health programs and to demonstrate adequate parenting abilities.
