REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

Family Planning Program
Services are offered on a sliding fee scale for uninsured patients.

  • Annual well-woman exams
  • Management of gynecological concerns
  • Basic infertility services
  • Variety birth control options, including natural family planning and abstinence
  • Referrals and resources

Early Detection Works Program
Free breast and cervical cancer screenings for uninsured women who meet income guidelines

  • Clinical breast exams
  • Pap and HPV testing
  • Referrals for mammograms, advanced cervical cancer tests, and treatment services

Maternal and Infant Program – Prenatal Care

Comprehensive prenatal services, including clinical care, education, counseling, and referrals.

  • Routine prenatal visits and lab testing conducted in partnership with the University of Kansas Medical Center
  • Ultrasounds, procedures, and delivery performed at KUMC

 

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS (STI) MANAGEMENT

  • Risk assessment, screening, and testing
  • Treatment for common STIs
  • Counseling and education
  • Referrals for HIV medication management (PEP/PrEP) and hepatitis treatment

 

PHYSICALS

Two clinic visits are required: A Nurse Visit for screenings and a Provider Visit for the physical exam

Adult Physicals
General wellness exam, pre-employment screening, or school enrollment physical

Includes:

  • Vision, hearing, and BMI screening
  • Blood pressure and lab testing (e.g., glucose, cholesterol)
  • Overall health assessment and referrals as needed

Child Physicals
Provided according to the Kan-Be-Healthy Program and the American Academy of Pediatrics schedule

NOTE: We do not perform sports physicals

  • Routine well-child visits and school enrollment physicals
  • Immunizations and developmental screenings
  • Vision, hearing, lead testing, and referrals

Pregnancy Case Management Programs

Pregnancy Maintenance Initiative (PMI)

The PMI program uses a case management model that integrates collaborative, multi-disciplinary care to support pregnant women throughout their pregnancy and up to six months after delivery. Services are tailored to individual client needs and goals, aiming to improve pregnancy outcomes for both the mother and infant.

  • Promotes partnerships between public and private providers to ensure affordable and accessible care.
  • Offers referrals to community resources, adoption services, and parenting education/support
  • Encourages paternal involvement and responsibility
  • Supports expectant mothers in receiving adequate prenatal care

Teen Pregnancy Targeted Case Management (TPTCM)

The TPTCM program provides comprehensive case management services to KanCare-enrolled pregnant or parenting teens during pregnancy and up to 12 months postpartum

  • Encourages adequate prenatal care and health monitoring for both mother and baby
  • Supports teen moms in delaying a second pregnancy until completing their education or vocational training
  • Promotes participation in well-child health programs
  • Offers guidance to develop effective parenting skills  

The Buckle-Brigade – Car Seat Safety Program

  • Inspection and installation of car seats according to CPST standards and requirements
  • KTRSO Child Passenger Safety Program provides a car seat for eligible families in need

The Swaddle Squad – Safe Sleep Program

  • Any individual who is pregnant or has an infant in need of a safe sleeping area who is willing to receive safe sleep education may participate in the program
  • Other family members or caregivers may attend the safe sleep training, but only one portable crib and sleep sack will be provided per infant

Childcare Licensing

  • Individuals providing regular childcare for unrelated children in a home or commercial setting must be licensed or registered.
  • The Leavenworth County Health Department conducts compliance inspections for childcare facilities and preschools within the county.
  • Questions about registration or complaints can be directed to the Health Department's childcare surveyor.
