Deputy County Attorney

Shawn M. Boyd is originally from Kansas City, Kansas. He comes to the office from the Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office, where he spent seven years prosecuting adult felony cases. He has tried over 95 jury trials, with 17 of those being homicides. While in law school, Mr. Boyd interned at the U.S. Attorney’s and Douglas County District Attorney’s offices. Mr. Boyd graduated from Washburn School of Law in 2008. Before law school, he received his bachelor’s degree from Baker University and worked as an accountant. 
Mr. Boyd is currently the Deputy County Attorney responsible for person felony crimes. 

David Melton
Assistant County Attorney
David Melton was born and raised in Shawnee, Kansas. David attended the University of Kansas and received a bachelor’s degree in English. Following college, David was a police officer in the city of Merriam. Following his service as a police officer, David attended law school at the University of Kansas. While in law school, he interned at the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office. Upon graduation from law school, David was hired as an Assistant County Attorney by Saline County. In 2000, he joined the Leavenworth County Attorney’s Office, where he established the county’s first Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit. During his tenure, David was named the Advocate of the Year by the Alliance Against Family Violence. He then became the office’s drug crimes prosecutor, prosecuting primarily felony drug crimes. While with Leavenworth County, David served on the Alliance Against Family Violence board. David eventually left Leavenworth County in 2005 to become Chief Assistant Douglas County District Attorney. After 16 years with Douglas County, David returned to Leavenworth County.

Ashley Hutton
Assistant County Attorney

A lifelong resident of Kansas, Ashley Hutton is a graduate of Washburn University and Washburn School of Law. She practiced civil and family law for two years with Kansas Legal Services, after which she served as an assistant district attorney for seven years in Wyandotte County, where she specialized in Child in Need of Care. Ms. Hutton was also a staff attorney for Cornerstones of Care for almost two years before coming back to prosecution with the Leavenworth County Attorney’s Office. Ms. Hutton handles the Child in Need of Care cases and Care and Treatment in the Leavenworth County Attorney’s office.

Christopher Lyon
Assistant County Attorney

Christopher Lyon is a University of Dallas and Washburn School of Law graduate. He is the former Trego County Attorney, Assistant Ellis County Attorney, and prosecutor for multiple jurisdictions. He has served as the Staff Attorney for the Kansas Sentencing Commission since 2019. Mr. Lyon served in the U.S. Army from 2006 to 2011 as the Non-Commissioned Officer in charge of the Company Intelligence Support Team through two tours in Iraq. Mr. Lyon has played an integral role in bringing Veterans Treatment Court to Leavenworth County.

Jose Guerra
Assistant County Attorney

Jose Guerra received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas School of Law. Mr. Guerra has served the county of Johnson as a legal intern and the counties of Shawnee and Wyandotte as an Assistant County Attorney. His prior experience includes the areas of Child in Need of Care, Juvenile Offender, and adult criminal matters at the district and appellate court levels. Mr. Guerra currently handles the domestic violence and traffic dockets. As a Hispanic Bar Association of Greater Kansas City member, Mr. Guerra has assisted in organizing the annual youth symposium to further diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.

Mary McMullen

Assistant County Attorney

Mary McMullen joined the Leavenworth County Attorney’s office as a legal intern before being promoted to Assistant County Attorney. As a first-generation college student, Ms. McMullen attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Finance. She graduated from law school at the University of Kansas, where she was the Mary Anne Chambers Service Award recipient for 2021, awarded to the student who best demonstrates professionalism while representing the disadvantaged and devotion to community service through public service. Ms. McMullen received a certificate in Advocacy and graduated with the Pro Bono Distinction Honor for completing over 100 hours of pro bono legal work. Ms. McMullen was also awarded the Kansas Farm Bureau Legal Foundation Rural Law Practice Grant, which is awarded to attorneys who demonstrate a strong desire to live and work in rural Kansas, demonstrate an understanding of the legal issues commonly faced by farmers and ranchers in rural Kansas, and demonstrate high academic achievement in their law school performance. Ms. McMullen specializes in domestic violence crimes and crimes affecting families.

Saber Hossinei
Assistant County Attorney
Saber began working at the Leavenworth County Attorney’s Office as an intern following his second year of law school. A non-traditional student and a first-generation professional. Saber attended Wichita State University and received his law degree from the University of Kansas. Saber began his career in insurance before life brought him to a passion for law.  Saber began volunteering for the Midwest Innocence Project in Kansas City, MO, and eventually, Saber became a full-time employee serving in fundraising and communications roles. There, Saber learned of the dual role of the prosecutor as not just an advocate for the State but also as a minister of justice, and started law school inspired to pursue a career as a prosecutor.
Saber is an active alumni volunteer with KU Law’s Career Services Office, serves as a mentor for Eagle U, a youth success program, and serves on the professional advisory board of ADHDKC.

Christen “Christy” Secrest
Assistant County Attorney
Christy is a lifelong resident of Olathe, Kansas. Christen graduated from Washburn University, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish before attending Washburn University School of Law, where she received her Juris Doctorate. Christen had previously worked in immigration law and worked as a public defender in Shawnee County from 2018 to 2021 when she joined the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting a variety of offenses. As of 2024, Christen has joined the Leavenworth County Attorney’s office as an Assistant County Attorney with special interests in reducing recidivism, equal access to justice, and community improvement.
