Community Corrections
Adult Intensive Supervised Probation
Monitors a target population of felony offenders who have prison sentences set aside for an attempt at supervision and rehabilitation in a community setting. The Adult Intensive Supervision Program (AISP) is the most widely used program in the Department of Corrections. This non-institutional measure allows clients sentenced by the court to live at home under rigorous intensive supervision. Frequent urinalysis tests to detect drug use and frequent contacts with employers, treatment providers and the probationer are characteristics of intensive supervision. The degree of supervision is based upon identified risks, needs, and on-going individual progress.
JUVENILE SERVICES
Youth Justice Resource Center (YJRC)
The Youth Justice Resource Center (YJRC) is a grant funded program which provides an array of Evidence-Based Programming and practices to youth involved in the local justice system. The purpose of the YJRC is to fill programming gaps concerned with criminogenic risk factors, increase future success of youth, and prevent further justice system involvement. The YJRC recently adopted a local park to provide youth with an opportunity to complete Community Service Work. The YJRC provides youth with assistance obtaining vital documents such as birth certificates, social security cards, state IDs, completing resumes and employment applications. The YJRC follows up on referrals to other area resources to ensure youth are participating in the appropriate programming and obtaining assistance they need. The YJRC offers resources for parenting and families such as Parent Project and the Strengthening Families Program. The YJRC provides cognitive educational interventions utilizing the NCTI Crossroads Curriculum, programs which address issues concerning anger management, life skills, truancy, juvenile delinquency, etc. For more information on the referral process and how to access these services please contact Kaitlynn Hardison by email at khardison@leavenworthcounty.gov.
Juvenile Intake and Assessment Services
This 24/7 program receives referrals from seven local law enforcement agencies . However, JIAC is willing to offer referrals to families that call in seeking assistance. JIAC also collaborates to provide assistance with Police Protective Custody and Child In Need of Care cases.
When the youth arrives at JIAC for a notice to appear, an intake questionnaire is completed. This consists of gathering information about the youth concerning family, school history, peer relationships, substance abuse, and mental and physical health. An assessment is done from this information in consultation with information from law enforcement and the youth's parents. Based on this process, recommendations and referrals are made that could be helpful for the youth. The strategy is to intervene early and prevent youth from getting more deeply involved in the juvenile justice system.
Juvenile Offender Community Case Management
Consists of services provided for juvenile offenders who have been placed, by the court, in the care and custody of the Kansas Department of Corrections Juvenile Services (KDOC-JS). The court may order out-of-home placement for juvenile offenders after all other reasonable efforts have been made to address barriers and criminogenic needs within the juvenile's home environment and the juvenile's offenses are severe enough to meet criteria for out-of-home placement. Case management services are provided to assist the juvenile and their families, in collaboration with placements and other treatment providers, to find and deliver effective resources that will meet their needs.
Juvenile Conditional Release Supervision
Provides monitoring of juvenile offenders released from the KDOC-JS operated Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex and returned to the community. Community corrections officers monitor the juvenile offenders in following the conditions of their release and assist the juvenile offenders in accomplishing their aftercare plans.
Juvenile Intensive Supervised Probation
An intensive monitoring program, in which community corrections officers provide the highest level of supervision with juvenile offenders within the community.
