235th Street Reconstruction, Hollingsworth to Dempsey Road
Phase 2 Closure – For Public
Beginning Tuesday 12/9/25 the Road Closure location of 235th Street, south of Dempsey will change from 0.3-mile south of Dempsey to 0.93-mile south of Dempsey. The full closure is required to install Phase II Improvements consisting of large crossroad culverts and grading on the project. All addresses located north of 22909 235th Street, and including 22909 235th Street, will now be accessed from the 235th Street and Dempsey Road intersection. All addresses south of 22909 235th Street will continue to be accessed from the 235th Street and Hollingsworth Road intersection or the 235th Street and Kissinger Road intersection.
This section of roadway will remain closed to through traffic until October 16, 2026. Access to 235th Street, including the Kissinger Road intersection, will be closed to all traffic other than adjacent property owners within the project, emergency vehicles, school busses, postal service, and delivery vehicle traffic. Once Phase 2 construction is complete the Leavenworth County Public Works will provide updated closure information for the project.
The detour route for the full duration of this project consists of Hollingsworth, west from the 235th intersection to 243rd Street, then north on 243rd Street and Levee 8 Road to the curve onto Dempsey Road and continuing east to 235th Street intersection.

Golden Road & 170th Street Road Closure Notice
Beginning Thursday, 12/11/2025 Golden Road and 170th Street will be closed for the replacement of Bridge SH-61. 170th Street will be closed 0.1-mile north of the Golden Road. Golden Road will be closed from 0.1-mile west of 170th Street to 0.1-mile east of 170th Street. Advanced notice warning signage will be placed on Golden Road at the north and west intersections of K-32 Highway, and 166th Street. Advanced notice warning signage will be placed on 170th Street at the intersections of Cantrell Road, Kreider Road, and Loring Road. No signed detour shall be provided due to the absence of paved road alternate routes in the area. The road closure is anticipated to continue until July 26, 2026.

179th Street (LVCO Route 33) Road Closure Notice
Beginning Monday 12/1/25, 179th Street, also identified as LVCO Route 33 will be full closure from 0.4-Mile south of Highway 7/73 to just north of the Mt. Olivet Road intersection. The closure is due to the replacement of the existing K-19 Bridge. Advance notice warning signage will be placed on 179th Street at the intersections of Highway 7/73, Highway K-92, Mt. Olivet Road, and Shawnee Road to alert the public that only local traffic is allowed past each point. No signed detour shall be provided due to the absence of paved road alternate routes in the area. The road closure is anticipated to continue until May 1, 2026.
🚧BRIDGE CLOSURE🚧
Bridge T-50 on Parallel Road west of 219th Street experienced a deck failure and developed a full depth hole on Saturday. After an evaluation was made yesterday by Leavenworth County’s contracted bridge engineer, it was determined that Road and Bridge will make repairs to the bridge. These repairs will take several days and then the concrete patch will need to reach strength for 10-14 days. After this is complete, the engineer will assess the repairs and lower the bridges weight limit. The county is initiating the process to have a new bridge designed for replacement of the structure immediately. The fastest timetable for construction and replacement of the bridge is 12-16 months.

Tonganoxie Drive (County RT 5) Closure – 207th Street (County RT 9 to Fairmount Rd
Beginning Tuesday 5/27/25 Tonganoxie Drive (County RT 5) will be full closure to Through Traffic from 207th Street (County RT 9) to Fairmount Road. The closure is due to a KDOT funded High Risk Rural Road Safety Improvement project. The detour route will consist of 207th Street (County RT 9), Dempsey Road (County RT 8), and Tonganoxie Drive (County RT 5) north of Fairmount Road. Advance notice warning barricades will be placed at the 207th Street & Tonganoxie Drive intersection and the Dempsey Road & Tonganoxie Drive intersection. No through traffic will be allowed on Tonganoxie Drive from 207th Street to Fairmount Road.
